Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

 

Community Action Connections (CAC) is again providing energy assistance to residents of Benton and Franklin Counties who meet the eligibility criteria required by the Washington State Department of Commerce. Low –Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program for qualified households that provides a one-time benefit (per program year) to assist with heating costs. All potential clients must complete this Registry Form, and return it to the CAC office. You may register on-line, fill-out and return this form by mail, or bring it to the CAC office.

Please understand that:

  • CAC only assists with current active accounts, NO closed accounts.
  • One and only one registry form for the entire LIHEAP season will be accepted.
  • CAC will not accept calls to check on the status of a Registry Form and/or when your appointment will be scheduled for Orientation.
  • The form on page 2 must be completed and returned to CAC.
  • Orientation appointments will be made in order of the date forms are received either by mail, hand delivered or online.
  • Your specific street address and mailing address are required. If you live in a multi-unit building, you must include your apartment number. PO boxes are accepted for mailing purposes only.
  • Your appointment date and time will be scheduled at the Orientation.
  • The reschedule of a LIHEAP appointment can be done one time only.
  • If you are over 10 minutes late, your appointment may be canceled and re-scheduled for the next available opening. This opening may be the end of the current month or the following month.
  • Receiving an eligibility appointment does not guarantee assistance.

To qualify you must meet the following requirements:

  • be a resident of and live in either Benton or Franklin County, and
  • be a U.S. Citizen or a "legal resident" or
  • have household members that are U.S. Citizens or "legal residents"
  • have some source of heat (electric, oil, natural gas, wood, pellets or propane) for your primary place of residence. We also assist if your heat cost is included in your monthly rent, and
  • have proof of all household income received for the three months prior to your appointment, identification for all household members, verification of address and a 12-month energy billing history, and
  • based on household size and combined average monthly income for all adults in the household, meet income eligibility requirements as detailed below

If you think your household qualifies, you are invited to submit a registry form to CAC. The form is on the other side of this paper. We will notify you by mail, when it is your turn to attend Orientation.

Orientation

• You will receive a postcard, by mail, listing the date and time of your MANDATORY Orientation.
• CAC staff will do our best to place you in the Orientation you request (below).
• Eligibility appointments will only be scheduled during Orientation.
• Orientations will be in English and Spanish.
• Assigning the Orientation dates will be on a first-register, first-serve basis.
• Conservation information, suggestions about the best way to use your LIHEAP award for energy savings, and what items you must bring to your LIHEAP appointment will be discussed at Orientation.
• Due to room capacity No children of any age are allowed at Orientation.

The door opens 30 minutes before sessions, and closes promptly 30 minutes after the time listed above. There is no entry after the door is closed, late to Orientation will result in resubmission of registry for a new Orientation date.
